Frequently Asked Questions
What does “handbuilt ceramics” mean?
Handbuilding is a method of making pottery that does not require a wheel. Pinch, coil, and slab-building are all different ways of handbuilding. I primarily use slab-building, which consists of rolling the clay flat and using templates to cut out different forms.
I love the speckles! What kind of clay do you use?
I use WC606 from Laguna Clay Co. It is a speckled stoneware, with lots of fine, dense speckling. It is very soft to work with, and I love it too!
Where did you learn to do pottery?
I took an introductory wheel throwing and handbuilding class at the University of Oregon during my graduate program in physics. A year later I joined a community studio and worked there for over a year, taking classes and coming to open studio hours every week.
How else can I support you?
Thank you so much for being here! Other than following me on Instagram and ordering from my shop, you can also join me on Patreon. As a subscription-based service, Patreon has the possibility of providing me with a more stable monthly income. Tiers range from $1-$15 per month, and rewards include early access to shop updates, access to my Close Friends list on Instagram, blog posts, monthly audio newsletters and vlogs, discounts, and monthly stickers and small ceramics items like a pin or magnet!
Are all items food-safe? Can I put them in the microwave or in the dishwasher?
All of the glazes and underglazes that I use are fired to maturity and are food-safe, unless explicitly stated otherwise in the product description (for example, some discounted pieces might have either cosmetic or functional flaws, these will always be labeled as “seconds” and include detailed descriptions about the flaws). All items are also microwave and dishwasher safe, unless explicitly stated otherwise in the description (for example the use of lusters, or metal wire for decoration purposes - like ladybug antennas - would render an item unable to go in the microwave or dishwasher). If you are ever unsure, please reach out!
I just placed an order, when will it ship?
Firstly - thank you so much for you support! I try my best to get orders shipped within 2-5 days. A tracking number is sent via email as soon as the shipping label is generated, before I’ve taken the package to USPS, so please allow a couple days for the tracking information to start updating. Made-to-order items have a lead time of 4-6 weeks, if you have any questions or concerns about a lead time please reach out to me!
My cat broke my mug, and I don’t see it on your website anymore! Can I order another one?
Yes! I keep all of my old stamps and stencils, even for designs I don’t make anymore, and am happy to remake an old favorite! Please email me at lelu.laurenhuie@gmail.com.
I’m a buyer for a retail store, do you offer wholesale?
I do! Please email me at lelu.laurenhuie@gmail.com to discuss my minimums and to see if we’ll be a good fit! All wholesale items are made-to-order, so please allow 4-6 weeks before shipping.
